Trina Coleman, PT Tech

Hi everyone, my name is Trina Coleman, a physical therapy technician here at OBTS. I am 21 years old now and just had a birthday in August. I was born and raised here in Valparaiso, Indiana and have been living here ever since. I used to live in a subdivision, but when I was 3 we moved out in Morgan Township with a lot more land. I went to Morgan Township from K-12th grade, which is where I graduated. All throughout school I played sports. All together I have played basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, gymnastics, and track & field. The sport that I had a high school career in were basketball, volleyball, and track & field, with basketball being my favorite. I grew up as a little kid playing basketball with my older brother Jaron, who is going to be 24 in November. I decided I wanted to make a career out of physical therapy because I knew I wanted to work in the health field and wanted to be able to relate sports in some way. So at first, I thought I wanted to do athletic training, but never realized I truly wanted to do physical therapy until I got injured. During my junior year playing basketball, I dislocated my shoulder and ended up having to get surgery after the season ended. It wasn’t until after going through therapy myself when I realized I loved it. I also understand there is a love/hate relationship when going through therapy, so believe my when I say, I know what you all are going through!! But then again, if it wasn’t for physical therapy I would not be where I am today, and I am forever grateful for it! Funny how things work out, huh? After high school, I started taking classes at Ivy Tech Community College as a part of working towards getting into the Physical Therapist Assistant Program there. I took two years of pre-requisites, and got accepted into the program this past spring. Now, with the fall semester starting about a month ago, I am currently in my first semester of the PTA Program, and should graduate in two years! Physical therapy is something that will forever be needed, so I am extremely excited to be in a career that involves helping people! It is my passion and I am ecstatic to continue this journeyJ.
